Palate Alchemy: Unveiling Culinary Magic at The Chemistry Room

What's omakase(ow·muh·kaa·say) you might be asking? It's a Japanese for, chef's choice.

It's been a while. Not to fear, I have an update to our date night series and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

How about Omakase? What's omakase(ow·muh·kaa·say) you might be asking? It's a Japanese for, chef's choice. Whether or not this sounds enticing to you, omakase is a delightful way to experiment with foods you may not typically try when visiting a Japanese restaurant. For example, my normal go-to is a yellowtail jalapeno roll or fluke sashimi, but I was excited to see how far I could push my taste buds. My thought was, if I didn't like it, at least I tried, and since it's only one bite, there's no food waste to worry about.

With that being said...we visited The Chemistry Room located in Manhattan. On their website, they describe themselves as, "an innovative and modern take on traditional Japanese cuisine". The Chemistry Room is an omakase-style Japanese restaurant known for its 13- 15-course menu and drinks pairing. This cozy restaurant is located on the first floor of the Sanctuary Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

In the summertime, reservations are needed about a month in advance. Space is limited as the restaurant only seats up to 30 people at a time. This allows for an intimate experience, which is why it's a great date night idea. So if you are someone who enjoys surprises as well as sushi, then this is right up your alley. If you aren't sold just yet, here are a few pictures...to help you seal the deal.

Smoked Miso Soup
King Salmon

Bafun Uni

A-5 Wagyu Beef

Of course, my favorite menu item had to be the wagyu beef. yum, yum 12/10!

Sakura Sencha - Green Tea
Shabu-Shabu Buri

At some point, the food was coming so quickly that I forgot to take pictures. In addition to the 13-course meal, you'll be presented with an option for additional handrolls or appetizers.

As I said, seating is limited. I highly recommend sitting by the bar to get the most out of the experience. You can make a reservation on their website or through Resy.com
